Xaver Konneker

Asim Abdulaziz

Asim and Xaver, live thousands of kilometers apart in vastly different cultures and political realities but what they have in common is that they both grew up by the sea. Over long phone calls with each other, the two artists realized that they not only share proximity to water, but they also share contradictory feelings of connection and alienation to the place they try to call ‘home’. In their visual exchange which they titled ‘‘to meet the sea and speak of home’, the Dutch and Yemeni coasts become a space for contemplation in which both artists reflect on their complicated relationship with the notion of belonging and their relationship to the water that surrounds them.
